Drizzles x Toppings + Icing = Donutology Kansas City

Now that I have seen doughnut letters it is my firm belief that this should be the new norm. Who needs greeting cards or a sheet cake anymore? Say it with doughnuts.

Okay, I did not set out to turn this page into a blog about doughnuts but here we are, with back-to-back doughnut-related content and you know what? Sometimes life is just that good. 

Last night, I attended the media preview for Donutology, Kansas City's newest doughnut shop. Venturing into the Westport District's saturated dessert market, Donutology is an experiment in itself – and it is supposed to be. There's toppings in oversized beakers, concentric rings decorating the walls that look vaguely scientific and then there's the way you order. You're the so-called scientist, using an order form with everything from maple icing and bacon bits to strawberry sauce and from loops – synthesize your creation by choosing from three categories: drizzles, toppings and icing.

From back to front: maple iced with bacon bits, strawberry frosting with sprinkles, and peanut butter frosting topped with peanut butter cups and chocolate drizzle.

The standard order is 3 miniature doughnuts but larger quantities are also available. If you're in the mood for the classics, pre-made doughnuts will be made daily and ready in the deli case.

Donutology might not be a real science but you'll have a degree in it by the time you get to the end of the line.

Hours are tentatively 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
